I built and now live in this 1800s-style log cabin for around $10,185. In this video, I explain how I did it—using salvaged materials, hand-milled lumber, and a lot of hard work.
At the core of this cabin are materials salvaged from an original log cabin built in 1818. The structure was in very poor condition, and only parts of it could be saved. Those original pieces became the foundation for the log cabin I live in today.
I did all of the work myself, so this cost does not include labor. That includes: • Digging the basement • Laying all of the block myself • Building the cabin from the ground up
I did have some help from family and friends on a few of the heavier tasks, but the vast majority of this project was completed on my own.
Nearly all of the materials were salvaged or reused. The lumber I needed came from large oak trees taken down on a neighbor’s property, which I milled myself for this build.
This video isn’t just about the price—it’s about self-reliance, preserving early American craftsmanship, and proving what’s possible when you’re willing to put in the work.
