We recently had a client call us after responding to a Facebook Marketplace Ad for a rental property.
The property she was inquiring about was currently listed for sale by a particular brokerage which purchases homes from the owner that wants to sell and then turns around and lists the property on the MLS after they purchase it. With that being the case, it is not in their best interests to rent the property our, they need to sell and recover the money they purchased it with, so red flags immediately went up in my mind.
I had her send me a link to the ad and the email she had exchanged with the "supposed owner". The "owner" and person who placed the Facebook ad was trying to get our client to send him the deposit and then he would send her the keys once he received the money.... Big Red Flag.
