Things changed with the pandemic. The courts closed so landlords could no longer evict nonpaying tenants for over a year. This cost the landlords. The courts thought they were helping the tenants, but they were seriously hurting all of us. Now rents are higher than ever to make up for the losses. Then the government tried to help by paying back rent. This drove the rental prices up as well because it took so long to get the government money that the losses for landlords were already incurred. Up go the rents!

If you are looking to invest in Detroit now, you'd be amazed how much rent tenants are paying. It's still good to invest. You can still make a double digit ROI even though the price of houses has increased.

If you are a tenant, how are you paying so much more in rent? Have your wages gone up? Have you had to make lifestyle changes? What are you doing if you cannot afford the new 2022 rental rates? Are you finding programs to help you buy houses instead of rent? Please comment. We all need to understand each other's situations. Landlords need to comment too about how they've been financially hurt by the closed courts and government handouts that were meant to help.
